Cosmetic Business 2018 featured a separate hall for Color Cosmetics exhibitors.
June 28, 2018
By: Jean-Yves Bourgeois
European Correspondent
The Cosmetic Business trade show, organized by the Leipziger Messe GmbH, took place in Munich on June 6 and 7 –and brought together some 419 exhibitors in nearly 140 thousand square feet. See photos from the show in the slider above. With nearly 4,000 visitors in two days coming from all over Europe, organizers say this show confirms year after year it is very “German,” but also very Eastern countries-oriented. It was a profitable show according to the vast majority of exhibitors, allowing them to meet German companies operating in the Beauty sector. This year, a reorganization of the exhibiting sectors featured a hall dedicated to Color Cosmetics. Among the 419 exhibitors present, several of them presented interesting products and packaging… Quadpack An item of note at the Quadpack stand was Yonwoo’s powder spray. Because of the trend for water-free cosmetics, dry formulas are also becoming increasingly popular; this powder spray was developed for a variety of powder formulas for skincare, makeup and perfumery. In cooperation with bottlers, the new product was subjected to stringent tests. The high-pressure pump dispenser with its Venturi nozzle in a flexible wide delivery tube dispenses powder evenly thanks to a targeted spray mist. The travel-friendly on/off locking system guarantees a safe transport. With its flush design, the powder sprayer can be decorated according to the customer’s brand image. Passage The Polish company Passage presented two new products, a 3D Gel Foundation and an Isotonic SHHHOT. The new 3D gel foundation is an innovative very lightweight gel foundation that feels like you are wearing nothing at all, while leaving a semi-matte finish. According to Passage, it ensures perfect coverage while preserving the “second skin” feeling with a dewy effect. Because of the moisturizing ingredient, it is called 3D gel foundation. The addition of moisturizing and soothing ingredients makes the skin look relaxed and softened. 3D moisturizing can be interpreted as a hydration process taking place at every skin level (epidermis, dermis) and in every direction (vertical, horizontal). This 3D gel foundation from Passage is recommended for all skin types. The other product Isotonic SHHHOT is inspired by food, and the formula looks like frozen yoghurt. The refreshing stick for extremely sensitive skin is made of cucumber extract and dehydrated coconut water for a smooth, nourished and hydrated skin. Furthermore, it contains up to 40% water. According to Passage, the Isotonic SHHHOT provides a cooling effect. To increase the cooling effect on the skin, it is recommended to store the product in the fridge. This is perfect for boasting a natural glow with a unique texture, giving skin “a natural plush touch.” The Ballerstaedt Company The Ballerstaedt Company had, for example, enriched its portfolio with a unique new quality product: BaCo Sealfilm PET-W Unicoat 5.1. According to the manufacturer, the smooth, white PET film is not only eye-catching but it also features ideal sealing properties against all types of plastic containers. It is particularly temperature-resistant and can be used for heat contact sealing (conduction) up to 230°C. Bomo Trendline presented some new care concepts for lips and nails, including a lip peel with bamboo exfoliating grains, which is also available in a sugar-based formula, both with moisturizing active ingredients (almond and macadamia oil). The nail butter in the Severa pot provides an extra dose of nail care and offers scents of raspberry or vanilla. The lip balm in the Bomo Trendline range is presented in an 8ml tottle from the Athena line. The beveled applicator allows for a pleasant and soft application of the balm on the lips. Corpack Corpack presented the innovative material, Sughera. According to the packaging manufacturer, this new material, made of natural cork and of a synthetic rubber blend, is versatile and boasts a natural look and soft surface. Corpack’s new material consists of ground pieces of natural cork and of a synthetic rubber compound (70% cork, 30% rubber compound). During the manufacturing process, the natural cork is injection molded and shaped without using adhesive. Sughera is 100% recyclable, lightweight and durable. In addition, less petroleum-based ingredients will be used thanks to this new packaging solution. The new material can take many different shapes and customized colors and it can also be personalized using decoration techniques. Sughera is therefore suitable for various applications, for example as a cosmetic packaging component. Edelmann Edelmann, the packaging manufacturer and system supplier introduced their patented packaging solution “MOVE” and the transparent cellulose film Eco Star. Thanks to “MOVE,” the printed image moves without needing to rely on costly lenticular or holographic films. According to Edelmann, this also makes the packaging attractive, sustainable and forgery-proof – while cutting costs at the same time. According to the company, “MOVE” is a combination of a cleverly designed and arranged printed image with matching embossing. Depending on the angle of light incidence and of the viewing angle, a movement in the print motif can be detected. In addition, iridescent colors can be displayed with no use of foil or paint. The Eco Star film, which could be seen at Edelmann’s booth, stands out visually thanks to its unique surface gloss, color and scratch resistance. Because the film is made from wood pulp, a renewable raw material, it is sustainable and can be composted in the garden. The transparent cellulose film is vacuum-vaporized with a wafer-thin layer of aluminum. This creates the metallic shine effect. Moreover, thanks to the surface tension of 42 Dyne, nothing is missing in the packaging design: The Eco Star film can be printed in offset and screen printing, it is spot varnishable and embossable. HCP & Rusi Cosmetics Among other novelties, HCP Packaging and Rusi Cosmetics presented their new packaging concept “Love.” For lashes that shimmer and shine, an HCP-Rusi stock pack uses a specially selected threaded plastic applicator that’s perfect for top-coat glitter formulas. The Fusion Sleek Lip Gloss “Love” features a flexible and cute heart-shaped flocked applicator for an even and generous coverage – ideal for glittery formulations. Both packs feature matte silver finishes right up to the cap, and hot foiled love heart designs. Huhtamaki A “bottle-to-tube” solution was showcased at Huhtamaki’s booth. The supplier offers an innovative packaging alternative to traditional PP bottles on the market. This never-seen-before tube laminate with a filling volume of up to 400ml, opens up new areas of application. The PP laminate developed by Huhtamaki is completely recyclable as a mono-material (jacket, lid, shoulder) and therefore takes into account the constant and growing concerns of manufacturers concerning sustainable packaging. The tube is also lightweight. According to the manufacturer, it weighs around 20% less than standard PP bottles. In addition, the new tube laminate eliminates the need for labeling because printing can be done directly on the material. Huhtamaki also says that, compared to conventional PP bottles, contents are much easier to deliver to the last drop. Lumson As for Lumson, the Italian firm presented a new range of lipsticks, characterized by Italian design and manufacturing. Different shapes, which are unique thanks to the wide range of decoration techniques offered by Lumson to its customers: from screen and tampo-printing, to hot stamping, offset and the brand new Pop Up technique. The customer can totally customize their lipstick: close to traditional decoration techniques, Lumson offers digital printing called the “Pop Up Effect.” This technique allows perfectly reproduction of the decoration on each component, with no color and thickness variation – normally seen with traditional decoration techniques. Another benefit for the consumer is the pleasant soft touch effect felt when holding a product decorated with the pop-up effect, as the user can really feel the image and follow the lines of the graphics represented. With Pop Up, it’s possible to obtain a final embossed decorative effect, thanks to a dedicated optional passage of thick clear finishing – that can be either glossy or matte. Quadpack An item of note at the Quadpack stand was Yonwoo’s powder spray. Gaplast Two interesting new products were seen at the Gaplast stand. First, was its Modular Unit Dose, a combination of a new reusable actuation adapter and a new cartridge. This combination allows several application variants in one combined dosing system. Product protection is removed before use. The cartridge is already filled and the content is protected during application. After application, only the cartridge is disposed of. Many fields of applications are possible since the adapter can be equipped with different pre-filled cartridges. Filling volume and content can vary. Single use ensures hygienic cleanliness. The cartridge system allows many applications, including pharma and skincare. Gaplast’s airless-system range is now upgraded with glass for a combination of glass and plastic for cosmetic products in a multi-dose container conditioned with no use of preservatives. It’s made of a multilayer (hybrid packaging) container with a solid outer layer and a flexible integrated inner bag, which collapses smoothly during use. Finally, this airless-system is placed in a glass vessel. An airless pump completely drains the bag and protects the product against contamination during the entire use. The new airless system combined with glass is available in three standard sizes with many possible designs: as a plastic container with a transparent inner bag, in any color, in clear or colored, round, oval, square-shaped glass, etc. The next edition of Cosmetic Business is scheduled for June 5-6, 2019 in Munich.
